Sherry Purtell bought the book “We Love Color” from the Bungalow and then set out to make this quilt. It is just amazing. I swear the picture almost doesn’t do it justice.
Remember how solids were reserved for all those dark Amish quilts? Well, no more. Solids are a vital part of the modern quilting scene. One of the reasons that solids have become so popular is that they are a lot less expensive. The millennials started sewing with them because they were more affordable. The latest recession hit that age group particularly hard. However, they really wanted to sew like all the women before them. So they picked up solids and away they went. Except, they didn’t want to quilt (and still don’t) with the Civil War Prints or the traditional type fabrics. They want fun, bright and cheerful. So do I! It’s not just the millennials, but many of us don’t want those dark fabrics around.
I love this quilt that Sherry made. It embodies creativity and happiness.
