If you’re a quilter you have a good soul and heart. YOU are a national treasure! Yes you are because you are the kind of person that loves. That’s what quilters do. We stitch love into everything we do. The good Sisters in McAllen Texas will make sure that the quilts get to the people with the genuine needs. You can count on that.
We are donating 5 yards of fabric that has been selected for you. We are also donating 2 1/4 yards of batting until it runs out. If you have your own batting scraps please consider using those and sewing them together. We will be collecting quilts that are 72” x 72” that will be sewn by you. I am including a video here so that you can see how to cut large strips of fabric and do quilt as you go.
We are also accepting gently used quilts that you may not want any longer. They may be ones that aren’t your favorites. Or maybe you made one for an old boyfriend that you broke up with and don’t want to have it hanging around Hahahahahaha!!!! We will take quilts that are double to queen sized or large twins. No baby quilts please. Since we’re paying for shipping we want family sized quilts. We have to make the best use of our boxes and our pallettes that are being sent.
So here’s the skinny:
DO LIST:
- Come in to the Bungalow starting on the week of March 17th. Check on our hours. If you see my white Tahoe and we aren’t open feel free to come in. Quilts are due back by May 15th.
- Pick up 2 1/4 yards of batting that is precut for you and 5 yards of fabric that have been selected.
- Make a quilt 72” x 72”.
- You can also use your own fabric or your own batting. Batting can be sewn together if you have batting scraps at home.
- You can also bring in quilts that are happy to travel to the border that are gently used and are twin, double or queen sized.
- Follow the directions on the video provided here to make the quilt as you go quilt or
- Quilt the quilt yourself. It’s a great way to teach yourself how to quilt on a domestic machine because mistakes won’t matter.
- Use large pieces or strips of fabric and do quilt as you go. These don’t have to be intricate pieced quilts…just ones that will keep someone warm.
Don’t List:
- Don’t bring in comforters. We won’t accept comforters, old blankets, or knitted or crocheted afghans.
- Don’t leave anything outside the door of the Bungalow. We have cameras on site and will see who it is if you do.
- Don’t bring in anything that is tied as opposed to quilted.
- Don’t tie your quilt. These won’t stand the stress of being used outside or in camps.
- Don’t bring in anything covered with pet hair. We will be storing these in the Bungalow for a short period of time and cannot risk having pet hair in the shop.
- Don’t bring in shoes or clothing. That is a drive for a different organization. We are only doing quilts.
I think that covers it! Please help. We know how good our customers are. We know and love every one of you. Watch the video below. You will see that it’s an older video. You won’t be receiving a stack of fabric as the video says, just fabric from a bolt and your own fabric that you’re willing to part with.
