I think everyone is ready for spring. It’s here but we just had a lot of snow dumped on us. They say that farmers like these late winter/early spring snows. The moisture can soak into the ground without being erosive. I’m not a farmer, that’s just me repeating what I hear but it sounds good to me.
The best kind of projects are ones that turn out really cute but don’t take a lot of effort. Isn’t that what we’re all looking for? Yes, there are some pretty great ones that are for special occasions where there are a lot of different pieces and take months to complete. It was a snowy day and a friend and I set out to sew something that would lift our spirits. Here it was the end of March and we were faced with a lot of heavy wet snow falling from the low clouds that should have moved just a hair north of us so that we would have only gotten rain instead of snow. But, as the saying goes, if it’s cloudy outside we have to make the sun shine inside. And we did!
My friend always says that she can’t sew. She’s a wonderful knitter, and she can sew too, but she has the most hilarious mishaps each time she sews. Once, her foot pedal was shocking her so she had to put a rubber soled shoe on so she could sew. Another time she made a garment that had a one-way print and the animals were going the wrong way when she put it on. She’s such a good sport and loves to laugh, so she doesn’t mind when we reminisce about those things. She does sew a lot of things the turn out well. This time she really made some cute outfits for her grand-niece.
The pattern is by Sew Baby. It is just adorable. There’s only one pattern piece for the top and one for the panties. It is lined, so you have to cut two. I love things that are lined. They just turn out so much better.
Here’s the first one she did. The fabric is from Iron Orchid Designs for Clothworks. It’s lined with Moda fabric, and the fabric for the panties is the same as the lining.
This was before she added the buttons. We decided that the buttons needed to be something flat so that the baby wouldn’t be bothered by them if they took a nap with the little dress on.
Here’s the second one that she made.
The second one is just as cute as the first. I don’t remember who the fabric manufacturer was for the brown floral print, but the lining and the panties are by Windham. I just love the vintage feel to this fabric. It looks like something from the early 1960s. Just love it. She did such a good job.
This little dress is so cute and easy you could make one for every day of the week. It would also be cute with a little t-shirt underneath if it were a little cooler of a day.
