I love to teach enthusiastic sewists to make these umbrellas. I was asked to teach this class at our local technical college this past week. I could only teach about 8 at a time, so if you tried to sign up and didn’t get to take the class, please try again next year. Or, you can come to the shop and take the class too.
The women that I taught this year were such a variety. They came with different skill levels, and each one was a delight. There was one woman who was a very accomplished seamstress, and she was so helpful. I wanted to take her home with me and have her teach me all of her secrets.
That’s what I love about this business. There are many, many women that contribute so much, and men too! I would love to have a man take some of these classes.
Today I contacted someone about getting children’s umbrellas. Prior to this point I wasn’t impressed with the construction of the children’s umbrellas. They were considerably lower quality than the adults. It seems to me that they should be all the more sturdy for those busy little hands. We’ll see what comes of that.
Of course, in making all of these umbrellas I am accumulating even more scraps than ever. So, you can look forward to yet another book in my future of scrap quilting.
Here are all eight women with their umbrellas.
They all finished. It was such a good time.
